Overview / About us

Stripe Communications is on the hunt for an ambitious, smart-thinking Business Development Manager to join the team and to be based out of London but with flexible working. 

 

You will report directly into the Stripe Leadership team (specifically the London and Edinburgh MD’s) and work closely with them and the respective leadership teams in both offices on the development of a new business strategy and be responsible for the creation and management of a new business pipeline for the business. 

 

If you’re a naturally gifted and tenacious salesperson and possess an understanding of Marketing and PR and desire to learn more about our industry with a desire to perfect your sales pitch and engage prospects, then this role could be perfect for you. 

 

We’re not just looking for someone to crunch through a list of new business targets with a copy and paste email campaign. We want someone who has experience and knowledge in how to craft and personalise outreach to prospects demonstrating industry knowledge, observations, and insights, that reflect and honour the experience, qualities, and values of the team. 

 

The successful candidate will have at least three years’ experience in a business development role and thrive in a creative and fast-paced team environment. 

 

You will work closely with a leadership team of talented, hardworking, and kind people and you can help make a big difference to the growth of Stripe Communications in 2024 and beyond. 

Responsibilities / Position overview

ROLE IMPERATIVES 

  • Must have previous agency experience working in a business development role.  

  • Must have some PR/Marketing industry knowledge either through having PR agencies as clients working for a lead gen business or in an in-house role within a PR/Advertising/Marketing agency. 

  • Knowledge and evidence of having previously developed and sustained a new business pipeline and knowledge of tools/software used for this.  

  • Proven track record in delivering new business leads which have led to securing new business introductions and contracts/projects. 

  • Experience of working as part of a collaborative team  

  • Passion, commitment, and enthusiasm for what they do 

ROLE INCLUDES 

  • The role will be split across offices with 70% of the role supporting the London team and 30% of your focus working with the Edinburgh team (3.5 days per week and 1.5 days per week respectively). There will also be occasional requirements to support the Stripe Health team on some marketing activities (understanding on the health sector is not a requirement for the role). 

  • Work with the Stripe leadership team to develop a new business strategy based on sector experience and growth ambitions in both the London and Edinburgh office. 

  • Develop and manage a pipeline for prospecting as well as managing in and outbound new business enquiries. 

  • Attending initial new business meetings with senior leadership team to qualify and interrogate new business opportunities. 

  • Create new business meeting summary notes preparing senior team for new business meetings – e.g. overview of prospect, individual and organisation, how meeting was secured, talking points, etc. 

  • Develop and refresh case studies of existing Stripe work to market to prospective clients on a bi-monthly basis. 

  • Build relationships on behalf of Stripe London with pitch intermediaries – e.g. AAR, Oystercatcher etc. 

  • Support the Stripe London team during the new business process with the development of new business pitch responses and managing creative requirements with Stripe Studio team. 

Agency Marketing 

 

In addition to the business development functions of the role, you will also have the opportunity to work with Stripe London marketing team to help promote the business in the industry and to prospects to support your business development outreach. This aspect of the role would include: 

  • Identification of thought leadership and panel participation opportunities for the Stripe Leadership team 

  • Recommendations and overviews of networking events 

  • A calendar of awards ceremonies and deadlines and recommendations for participation with provision of budgets  

  • Management of Stripe website case studies, ensuring content is refreshed on a bi-monthly basis. 

  • Working with the Stripe Social team to ensure regular posting of content promoting Stripe work, people, and projects. 

Qualifications

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE 

  • A proven track record in business development in previous roles – preferably within PR/marketing/advertising agencies or new business agencies supporting these industries e.g. Creative brief, AAR, Oystercatchers, Ingenuity, etc. 

  • Experience of and knowledge in the management of a new business pipeline and the maintenance of this 

  • Knowledge and experience of techniques and processes in managing new business leads. 

  • An understanding of PR and marketing. A foundational level is sufficient, but you need to know what we do and how we do it to sell our services. 

  • Confidence and excellent communication skills 

  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude – a self-starter and team player, adept at working collaboratively.  

  • An ability to think creatively when it comes to stimulating conversation and interest from new business prospects. 

  • Experience of working under pressure and at a fast pace (ability to meet deadlines) 

  • Enthusiasm and interest in working with sport and entertainment brands. 

LOCATION 

  • The role is based in Central London  

  • We offer flexible working, and you are only required to be in the office for 2 days a week. 

  • There will be occasions to work from the Edinburgh office.
