Responsibilities / Position overview

We are seeking a talented individual to join our HEOR Research team as an Associate Consultant, specialising in Health Economic Modelling. This is a perfect opportunity for a self-motivated new graduate looking to start a career and gain experience in the evolving and increasingly important health economics and patient outcomes industry, with a focus on economic modelling.

Our Research team comprises four core specialisms: Economic Modelling, Value & Access, Statistics, and Evidence Review. We offer a structured graduate programme in which the successful candidate will spend approximately half their time focusing on economic modelling, and half their time gaining experience across the other specialisms. Where possible, cross-specialism experience is gained through end-to-end involvement in multi-disciplinary projects, giving you exposure to how different elements of HEOR work together in practice.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in our training programme developing technical, scientific, and consulting skills in all areas. As you progress in your career you will have the opportunity to deepen your skills in economic modelling while also developing a secondary specialism — Value & Access, Statistics, or Evidence Review — based on your interests and strengths.

What You'll Do

As an Associate Consultant, you will work closely with other Lumanity team members to deliver high-quality, health economics-focused deliverables demonstrating the value of our clients' products. You will develop and communicate economic models to demonstrate the impact of a new health technology (drug, device, diagnostic technique, etc.) on both patients and healthcare systems.

The role is varied because every engagement is different depending on the unique scientific and access needs related to different treatments and diseases. A typical project may include:

  • Researching the disease area and understanding the current treatment landscape and health technology assessment guidelines
  • Analysing the effectiveness and safety of the new technology using results published in journal articles and data from clinical trials or disease registries
  • Designing and developing transparent and user-friendly economic models — typically built in Microsoft Excel, but may also be constructed in other software such as R
  • Reporting and explaining what you have done — verbally, in a written document, or as a presentation to fellow team members or clients

In addition to modelling work, other responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Developing HTA reimbursement dossiers for a variety of stakeholders, including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in England and the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC)
  • Supporting statistical analyses, such as Network Meta-Analyses
  • Producing abstracts, posters, or manuscripts to report the findings of studies
  • Helping other health economists and/or statisticians

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic graduate with a strong motivation to drive their development and learning in a fast-paced environment.

  • A postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in health economics or a closely related field
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for developing client-facing consulting skills alongside technical expertise
  • Written English to a professional scientific-writing standard
  • Excellent quantitative and analytic skills and critical thinking, with the ability to explain complex calculations and ideas clearly and intuitively — both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent communication skills and an ease in liaising with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint — Visual Basic for Applications and other logic-based software coding knowledge is valuable but not essential at entry
  • Ability to work productively independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Organisational skills with close attention to detail and personal time management

Please note: This role may require occasional travel, for example to attend client meetings in person or for conference attendance.
